Max Remy Superspy : In search of the Time and Space Machine.

1. About Max Remy.

Max Remy is an eleven year old girl who lives in the city with her
mother. She is suppose to spend the summer with her dad who is a film
producer. But when things don't go according to plan Max is dropped off
at her Aunt and Uncles farm in the middle of no where. Here she meets a
boy named Linden and they become the best of friends. Together they
discover that Max's Aunt and Uncle are actually inventors for a secret
spy organisation called Spyforce. When Max and Linden use their latest
invention, a time and space machine, to find her Uncle's brother in
England they meet an evil Mr. Blue who is plotting to take over the
world with the new invention. In the end Max and Linden defeat Mr. Blue
become secret agents for Spyforce with heaps of cool new stuff.

2. The Title MAX REMY SUPERSPY:IN SEARCH OF THE TIME AND SPACE MACHINE

I think Deborah Abela chose this title as it is instantly tells us of
the main character and what the book will be about without even picking
it up yet. I think she did this so people knew what it was about for
those people who love spy and adventure novels so it was easier to find
that type of book.

3.Setting and genre.

The book is set in today’s time roughly. Max lives in the city of Sydney
as it is today. The farm is also a real place in the country. London is
very much set as it is today.
This book is an adventure novel about spies, deception and mystery. This
is a children’s fiction novel for ages 11+.

4. About the characters

A) Max
Max is and eleven yr old girl who is shy by brave. She is a lot of
the time stubborn but generally she has a good heart and a love of
adventure, she loves her family even if she doesn't know it. Her best
friend is Linden.

B) Linden
Linden is a boy about Max's age who lives near Max's Aunt and
Uncle. He is a real country boy who is really down to earth, a
contrasting character to Max's wild attitude towards everything. he is
very brave and calm in sticky situations which is why he is the one who
keeps Max's cool on missions.


5. Major Changes
The biggest change for Max in the book would have to be when she starts
her adventure in search of her uncles brother. This whole adventure
changes her forever. She is less stubborn and doesn't nearly as much
attitude towards everything. Max becomes very brave and stands up to
bullies in her class. This shows how one event can change a person
forever.

8. In general, this book is very exciting and action packed which goes pretty fast. I would recommend it for kid’s as it is fun and original. The characters are unique but face the same problems as us “normal kids”.

Ballad: The Storm

The wild winds shook the sky,

Why does Sade feel guilty about not telling the truth?

In the book 'The Other Side of Truth' Sade is very uncomfortable about telling the truth to people in London. Sade feels like this because she is worried that if people found out about her secrets and who she is that her father could be hurt or even killed if the authorities found out. Evidence of this is in chapter 15 'Trouble with the truth' (p. 72). Sade has grown up with her parents telling her that lying is bad and that she should always strive to tell the truth. So when Sade tells lies to the people she meets it's hard for her as it's not in her nature. There are times when telling the truth is going to result in bad consequences before good will come so Sade must keep the truth locked inside of her.

Descriptive Opening Paragraphs 8/3/10

The only noise for miles was the trickle of the glistening stream, the sweet song of the mornings birds and the movement of the wind along the few patches of lush, green grass. All that I could see was the melting slush of winters snow, the jaggedness of the snow-caped mountains and the rising of the sun, revealing the beauty of spring arriving. The warmth was so inviting on my skin. My brother and I haven't lived here long. Here I felt free, alive and the healthiest I've ever been. But our lives was not always this nice. No. My name is Sam and I'm 14yrs old. I'm going to tell you something, something horrible and cruel. I was taken when I was very young. As was my brother. I don't remember much of the time I spent with my family, let alone if we were ever happy. My story starts here. At the government center of 'research'.

Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment by James Patterson

This book starts off with the main character, Max, having a bad dream.
In this dream Max is running from the Erasers, muntant men who have qualitys of wolves including fur on their skin, speed, sharp teeth and scary facial features.
Then Max wakes up sweating.

The donkey is the hero - Exposition

The Donkey

The real hero in the, The Silver Donkey is the donkey itself.
The donkey is a brave creature; it has shown bravery in all the tales. Here is an example from the second tale on page 86. ‘It raised its voice bravely and said, “ It’s true I have known suffering, sky. That’s why I can not bear the sight of it … I will not take pleasure in the suffering of others. I would rather endure suffering myself, than see it inflicted on the world in my name.” ‘ The donkey was scared and told not to go up the mountain to see the sky, that he would make a fool of the people and animals is what he was told. Even though he was frightened he did go up to the sky to ask for rain for the common good to the world.
The donkey is also persistent in doing the tasks that were set for him/her. The donkey has shown persistence in the most in the first tale as well as the others. Hazel, the donkey was persistent to help the baby leave Bethlehem to escape the danger. As shown on page 48 and 49 ‘the old donkey was growing restless. She kicked the walls with her hooves. … “I think she is pining for Ruth,” said Mary. “We must take her home, Joseph.” … they saw in the distance vast legion of the king’s soldiers racing towards Bethlehem. … Mary and Joseph were glad they left. It was never good to be in the same place as the king’s soldiers. Hazel tugged the rope. “All right, Hazel!” said Joseph. “We’re coming, we’re coming.” They walked and walked.’ The donkey was tired in this quote but she kept going to protect the baby’s life that was in danger from the king’s soldier going to Bethlehem to kill all the babies born in the last three years which would have included Mary and Joseph’s baby.

The donkey was also loyal in all the tales, which shows true heroism. The donkey in the third tale comes out of hiding to comfort his carer, Jack when he was shot through the heart at war from a snipers bullet on the battle field. It shows that the donkey is loyal to Jack because on his death bed he comes to comfort Jack, to give him hope of life. As quoted on page 138 and 139. ‘Then he felt something touched his face. … He knew that the donkey had left the bushes and come to him, and lowered his grey face to his own. Its soft muzzle had brushed his cheek as delicately as velvet. He smelt its rustic, dusty scent. The smells made Jack think of home.’ The donkey was a loyal creature who had formed a friendship between Jack and himself.

The donkeys were the hero’s because they were brave, persistent and loyal for all their sacrifices they have made.

Summers Coming by Sophie Shaw 9/10/09

In my head I hear a humming,

Summer, summer summer's coming,

Soon we're going on vacation,

But there is a complication,

Day by day the problem's growing,

We don't know yet where we're going,

Mother likes the country best,

That's so she can read and rest,

Dad thinks resting is a bore,

He's for fishing at the shore,

Sister says swimming's cool,

Swimming in the swimming pool,

I don't care,

I'd be happy anywhere,

In my head I hear a humming,

Summer, summer, summer's coming,

Soon we're going on vacation,

But we have a complication,

Day by day the problem's growing,

Where oh where will we be going?

1. The poem Summers Coming is about a family planning to go away on vacation but they can’t decide on the place to go.

2. This poem’s theme is about summer and not being able to decide on a holiday destination.

3. This poem is full of happiness and excitement of summer vacation. By the end of the poem the mood is still happy but the boy just wants to pick a place and go there for a holiday as soon as possible.

4. This poem is structured in the three stanzas. The first and last stanzas are almost a repeat except for the last line. The second stanza is where all the important information about the complication the person is talking about. There are some very emphasising sentences in this poem which creates an image in your head of the family almost ready for vacation like: day by day the problems growing, we don’t know yet where we’re going? Dad thinks resting is a bore; he’s for fishing by the shore. This poem has made use of rhyming which has given the poem a happier and more excited felling overall. The rhyming pattern is as follows: AA, BB, AA CC,DD,EE ,FF AA,BB,AA

5. In this poem there are no signs of onomatopoeia or alliteration being used.

6. The poet Sophie Shaw has achieved its purpose of entertaining you with the one of the worries of planning holidays. The impact of the poem for me the use of words to cleverly bind the sentences together.
